Naming of individual points in a batch or in a traverse
« on: August 30, 2016, 09:36:41 AM »
Good afternoon, everyone:

I have yet another rookie question regarding the naming of points within a batch, whether they be 'random' points or within a traverse.  After I create a new sample in the Acquire window, and then in the Automate window Position List I click on Digitize to add new points to the new sample I just created, how do I give those points unique names as identifiers, e.g. 'Garnet 1 core' before clicking the "Add(ing) New Unknown To Position List"?  Along the same lines, when setting a traverse, how can I name the 'start' and 'end' points or any of the points in that sample?  This is important when looking for zonation patterns and being able to glance at a point name and know I am looking at the core vs the rim composition, for example.

Thanks once again for all your kind and patient help (and, "Yes!!!", I need training badly).

Best regards

Dan

Hi Dan,
There is a subtle difference between samples in the Acquire! and Automate! windows.  The Acquire! window samples can be manually created and acquired analytical (or wavescan) samples, while the samples in the Automate! window are simply position samples that have no element information attached to them.  Samples in the Acquire! window are often used to create, import or modify new sample setups for subsequent use manually (in Acquire!) or for automated acquisition (in Automate!).

When creating position samples in Automate! you can simply name each position sample by whatever "chunkiness" you want.  Each position sample could be a single position, or each position sample could be a complete traverse, or each position sample could be a number of points in the "rim", or each position sample could be a number of points in the "core".  Or whatever. It's your call.

When the position samples are automatically acquired (based on whatever sample setup(s) you select), they will have those names in your Analyze! window. Just name each position sample with 1 or many positions whatever you deem necessary to document your sample.

I'm going to have one of our specialists contact you about some remote training using TeamViewer or VNC, since you are on our tech support plan.
