looking for EPMA-source or similar

Hi.

I'm looking for a device for producing an electron beam with the following properties.

energy: 1 keV or less
current: in the order of a few microAmps
beam waist diameter: 1 micrometer or less

The whole thing will be mounted onto the side of a TEM-column at right angles to the optical axis of the TEM
and I want the focus of the beam to be in the center of the TEM-column, which has a radius of roughly 15 cm.

The only thing I can think of that might meet those specifications is a low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) source (whether it can be installed in the described configuration is another matter entirely).  I understand Princeton Research Instruments sells them, and if I recall correctly, they were open to customization. It's been a few decades since I've used any of their tools, though, so things may have changed.

I think some EPMA sources also can go up to 10 microAmp. Jeol is supposed to have one.

I have no idea if this technology would be appropriate for your needs, but you might try googling "electron beam welding sources" and see if you see anything interesting at all.



These ought to be enough beam current for your purposes!

The problem might be the probe diameter that's too big for my purposes, but it certainly shows that very high beam currents can be reached.
