Upward and downward compatibility of JEOL parts
« on: December 18, 2015, 08:04:47 AM »
Hi all,
Inspired by the discussion about the continued support of the JEOL 8900 series I wanted to start discussing potential upward and downward compatibilities (between series) of machine parts to identify potential bottle necks and set-up adequate e-bay alerts ;)

I start:
To my knowledge, the design of the JEOL spectrometers is still essentially the 733 design and I know of people who kept the spectrometers of their old machine as spare parts for the new machine.

We have the (optional at the time) linear encoder stage that was a third party piece from a vendor that does not exist anymore as far as I know. There were no 8900 ones around for a repair but we have now an 8200 one that is working.

What else was a successful replacement across series or has not changed in design since the 70ies (*ahem*)?
