Use Digitized Conditions?
« on: December 31, 2023, 03:48:21 PM »
Could someone explain this feature?

1) How does one store a set of "Digitized Conditions" for use with this option?
2) Are there any advantages to this option vs "Sample Setups"?

Cheers,

Scott B.

For others, Scott is referring to this option in the Automate! window:

To "store" different conditions for different position samples, simply click the Conditions button and edit the beam conditions as desired.  These various beam conditions are stored in the position database for subsequent use.

As far as whether there is an advantage to using these beam conditions compared to using sample setups, it's hard to say. The only advantage I can think of is that one doesn't need to create a different sample in the Acquire! window (and subsequently save it from the Analyze! window) for each desired (automated) beam condition.

This topic moves me to make a quick post about a couple of general features in Probe for EPMA (and all Probe Software applications for that matter!), and that is, the use of the "ToolTip Help" and the "Context Sensitive Help" features.

For example, if one "hovers" the mouse (without clicking on it) over a control in the Probe for EPMA software, most controls will "popup" a short sentence or two of explanation about that control, be it a button, text input, or option control. For example, hover the mouse over the Conditions button in the Automate! window and this text will "popup":

And similarly, hover the mouse over the Use Digitized Conditions option in the Automate! window and this explanation will "popup":

Another helpful feature when none is not sure about something is to hit the F1 key when a window (or menu) is selected and the Probe for EPMA User's Reference manual will be displayed for that current window (or menu). Note that for context sensitive help on menus, you'll want to hold the mouse over the menu item (without clicking on it) and then hit the F1 key.

For example, in the Automate! window, hitting the F1 key loads the reference manual and displays the section on the Automate! window. Then scroll down and click on the Run Selected Samples link, then click on the Use Digitized Conditions link and the following will be displayed:

Of course for the most updated help, this user forum will often have more information...     :D

Happy New Year to all!
