Mapping Absorbed Current

Julie Chouinard and I  were chatting with a new chem faculty member who studies solid state battery chemistry and he was looking into possible ways to map ion flow in his materials. These materials are extremely prone to ion migration (as one might expect!) even at room temperature.

We're going to try to TDI scanning methods:

and possibly some EBIC methods, but we were also wondering if it would be possible to map absorbed currents using a stage or beam scan.  I worry that we'd have to use some very long dwell times as the picoammeter response (even on Cameca instruments) is quite slow.

 Has any one tried this?

We could certainly use the point grid methods in Probe for EPMA as discussed here:

but we'd prefer to use a smoothly scanning beam...
