Exporting Standard Data
« on: October 07, 2013, 11:42:42 AM »
Hi John (and All),

I have a quick question …

Is there any simple way to export standard composition in Oxides from PfE? I can see that from the standard.exe utility I can export ascii files but they have too much info inside and do not seem to have the oxide composition.

I can only use the latest PfE that supports SX50 (9. something version).

Thanks!!

Hi Luca,
I'm not sure if any of the ideas below will get you want you need, but first let me hasten to add that you can certainly use the latest versions of our software (10.x) for re-processing your data, just not for acquiring data on your SX50. Since we have added many new re-processing features since v 9.x, you should update all your off-line computers to 10.x right away.

In the meantime did you try the Export Single line format here:

The Excel file this creates has the elemental concentrations but also the oxide formulas for each elements, so it would be simple to convert them in Excel.

You can also get a list of your standards in any Probe run, by clicking the Run | List Standard Compositions menu. This produces this type of output (note the OXWT: line):

Does this help?

Hi John. Thanks. That does not get me what I want. I will try with version 10 as soon as I can.

Hi Luca,
Note that you can list the standard compositions from the Standard or Probe for EPMA applications to the log window and then either copy and paste into a text document, or use the Output | Save To Disk Log menu to save subsequent log window output to a text file with a .OUT extension.

In fact, one can record the log window output during an entire probe run for complete documentation purposes using this option. In addition, one can add comments to the log window and they will be automatically saved to the .OUT file as seen here:

So for example, you could run Standard.exe, select Save Log To Disk, click the Standard | List Oxide Standards menu and get this output in a text file:

This lists all oxide standards in the PFE standard database.

Or in PFE, simply click the Save Log To Disk menu and click the Run | List Standard Compositions menu to get just the standards in the current Probe for EPMA run output to a text file:

The neat thing about this last option is that the program automatically outputs the elements in the order they are in the current PFE run.
