Stage navigation system on the JEOL 8530F and using PfE/PI
« on: July 19, 2013, 03:26:21 PM »
Hi John,

As a new user of Probe Image on the JEOL8530F, I'm wondering about stage navigation once we have PfE/PI up and running.

As you know the 8530F has its own navigation system that includes software dedicated to an optical microscope that in turn is fitted with a base plate to receive JEOL sample holders in the proper orientation for the purpose of holder+sample image acquisition and automatic calibration. It's quick and easy to snap an image of samples before they enter the instrument.

Can this system be used in conjunction with PfE/PI software, or is it advantageous to work entirely within PfE/PI for purposes of navigation?

Thanks,

Henny

Yes, either way. The PictureSnap feature in Probe for EPMA (and now also CalcImage) will work with any image source as long as it's BMP, GIF or JPG.

But I suspect you will find our method nicer because for one thing it handles rotation effects, because no system is truly orthogonal!  But our software and JEOL's can all be utilized at the same time so it's your choice.
