I just gave this presentation on comparing EDS and WDS acquisitions in PFE at the EPMA 2016 Topical Conference in Madison this week.

Note that this is a "failure mode analysis" effort in that no one should ever attempt to perform quantitative EDS analyses using the so called "factory default peak shape profiles", but of course even worse than this, is that 99% of all EDS analyses don't even utilize standard references!

So needless to say, this comparison is quite a bit removed from the "state of the art" even though the same standards were utilized for both the WDS and EDS analyses, but it is what most EDS people do who don't know better!

So basically this is a comparison of WDS using default MAN backgrounds and EDS using default peak shape profiles, but with full standard k-ratios since I want to  make as much as possible an 'apples to apples" comparison and WDS has to use standards of course...

As most of you know, Probe for EPMA provides fully integrated WDS-EDS acquisition and quantification by interfacing with Thermo and Bruker EDS systems for point analyses:

We are working on a similar integration for WDS-EDS integrated quantitative x-ray mapping. Here is the poster we presented at QMA 2019 on integrated WDS and EDS (spectrum) image quantification (see attached below).

Basically the WDS-EDS x-ray mapping quantification software (in CalcImage) is done, we are just now working on finishing up the WDS-EDS synchronized acquisition with Thermo and JEOL using the WDS scan generator sync output as input to their external trigger input.
