Gold sputtering
« on: March 10, 2022, 12:12:26 AM »
Hi everyone,
This topic might be out of the EPMA range but if anyone has any tips, I would be happy to hear about it.
We have a gold sputter in the SEM lab and we have a lot of gold scraps. Does anyone know if it is possible to use these scraps to make new disks for the gold sputter? The disks are maybe 5 cm of diameter and 2mm thick. I was thinking about softening the gold and pressing it but I don't really how to press it and with what kind of equipment it can be done. The disks have to be homogeneous and without topography to have a good uniform gold sputter.

Anyone has ideas on how to reuse them? Otherwise, anyone has ideas on where to recycle those gold scraps or what to do with them?

Thanks!

We've sold our spent targets to a local jeweller who was quite happy to take them.
